Job description
As a Site Welding Inspector You control welding activities on site to ensure quality compliance with the codes & standards and you provide expertise in technical decisions related to any welding activities.
Tasks
- Monitor compliance with contractual requirements, specifications and applicable codes and standards on welding and testing activities.
- Review WPS (Welding Procedures Specifications) and PQRs (Procedure qualification records) for correctness and completeness prior any welding work starts.
- Organize and monitor site welder qualifications and ensure that qualified welders are issued with proper identification cards.
- Ensure the tools required prior welding (holding ovens, welding machines, etc.) are fit for use and with valid calibration.
- Ensure that any required control measures to ensure satisfactory welding conditions are in place whenever required due to inappropriate environmental conditions (windscreens, rain protection, fire protection, etc.)
- Provide technical advise to ensure that all welding activities are carried out in an efficient and quality manner
- Check the welding records, parameters and other requirements regularly during welding.
- Visually inspect the welds and verify NDT (Non Destructive Test) results as required by Inspection & Test Plans.
- Collect and review weld history sheets (including NDT reports) submitted by the contractor for validation and progress review.
Job requirements
- technical degree in mechanical / welding engineering or equivalent
- welder inspector qualification from recognized welding organization
- NDT qualification level 2 or equivalent in visual test, radiographic test, ultrasonic test, magnetic particle test and liquid penetrant test.
- general knowledge of quality management system principles
- experience in power plant industry or oil & gas industry
- qualification meets welding requirements of low alloy steel (P11, P22 & P91)
