Java Developer

Job description

Alpiq is currently in the process of redeveloping the internal energy/financial trading systems in all business areas.  This role is responsible for Java development within the new One trading landscape which is a replacement of previous 3rd party/bespoke systems.  The role is vital to the development of the application and will give great exposure to an Energy and financial trading environment with great career progression and training. The role may also involve travel to Switzerland.

This role is responsible for:

• Development of Java in the new internal developed energy/financial trading system
• Maintenance and continuous improvement of the application
• Specification of user requirements, design, development and management of 3rd party development and testing when required.
• Preparation of application documentation
• 2nd and 3rd level support

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree
• Software development experience with core focus on Java development skills (2+ years)
• Strong Object Orientated Programming skills through University and experience
• Analytical skills, ability to understand business needs and work directly with end users to create effective solutions
• Ability to understand and document complex business processes and translate them into solutions
• Fast adaptation to small team work environment
• Self-reliance by tasks solution combined with a strong team-oriented focus
• Good communication skills for communicating various system issues and meeting the customer’s expectations
• Responsibility for tasks solution within the frame of the project
• Readiness for permanent increase of achieved knowledge level
• Language skills: fluency in English is a must, German would be an advantage
• Full time job based on standard employment contract

Others (optional):

• Experience with projects in energy business domain or trading platforms
• Knowledge of other areas such as Python, SQL would be a benefit.
