General Ledger Accountants are accountable for ensuring that business transactions are properly accounted for and accurately reflect the company’s accounting process. General Ledger Accountants are the owners of the financial statements for each separate entity, as well as consolidated statements for the entire company. The General Ledger is the central core of accounting information system that provides a complete record of financial transactions over the life of the company.
- Managing the work of the team responsible for General Ledger accounting for US and Canada (approx. 16 team members)
- Overseeing all accounting aspects of the entities and processes in scope, ensuring their compliance with company policies, internal controls, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements
- Being a Subject Matter Expert in accounting areas being part of the team’s scope
- Overseeing preparation and review of balance sheet account reconciliations (including, but not limited to bank accounts, prepayment accounts, audit and other accrual accounts, credit cards accounts, tax accounts, capital accounts, global sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliations) for all entities in scope
- Overseeing the process of identification and recording adjusting entries on a timely basis
- Overseeing the month-end close process in the assigned areas of responsibility, including preparation & review of journals prepared as part of the close and other month-end closing related procedures
- Performing technical accounting analysis and necessary research to ensure proper accounting treatment for unusual or complex transactions
- Performing financial statement reviews, flux analysis, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions, where needed
- Monitoring and review of general ledger accounts, to ensure accurate financial information is presented at period-ends
- Preparing monthly and quarterly reports, as requested
- Leading, motivating, evaluating and coaching the team to deliver excellent results, supporting employee engagement, professional development and retention
- Providing documentation and preparing schedules to support both internal and external audits and SOX requirements
- Recommending and implementing process enhancements in relation to the processes in team’s scope
- Establishing highly collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, especially corporate accounting team in Dallas
- Various other duties as assigned or may be necessary
- Master Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years of professional experience in accounting or finance, including 2 -3 years of people management experience
- ACCA/CPA qualification or equivalent (completed or in progress)
- Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Sarbanes-Oxley and SEC requirements
- Experience with large company’s ERP accounting systems (e.g. Oracle, SAP)
- Ability and willingness to be flexible and work late hours, especially during month end and quarter end close, to allow successful cooperation with US time zone based teams and stakeholders
- Ability to work and resolves issues independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to organize and prioritize workloads, multi-task and meet required deadlines
- Fluent English (written and spoken) and excellent verbal and written communication skills, as the position requires direct interaction with senior management, external auditors and other functional groups and departments across the globe
