Support Engineer/Java Developer

There are two aspects to the role. The first is to maintain and support an important legacy system. We do little or no development on the system, but need to make configuration changes regularly, and resolve queries from 1st line support. This work takes priority always. The other aspect is to work on other post trading systems, and this will include development. Usually the split is 50%/50%.

The candidate will have a consistent track record of demonstrating initiative, collaboration, and strong teamwork skills. He/she will think out of the box and adds value to discussions. Furthermore, he/she will take direction and have a strong focus on delivery. Scope of responsibilities will include working in a team taking direction from others for assigned tasks and on some occasions leading individual tasks as part of a larger project.

Person is exposed to and gain experience to all areas of the European cash equities trading platforms. This is a very exciting overlap between technology and the business groups

Mandatory:

• Knowledge of Java Language with Multithreading
• Unix
• Memory management
• TCP/IP (useful if you know UDP, multicast, broadcast, NIO etc.)
• Excellent understanding of the data structures and algorithms
• Excellent communication skills are required - the successful candidate will communicate across the regions
• Strong team player prepared to take responsibility for tasks, and ownership of issues and you must be happy to support the production instances of the code you develop.
• Experience of agile programming technologies will be an advantage.

Nice to have:

• candidates knowing FIX protocol will be given priority
• A background in C++/C/C# is an advantage
• SQL (preferably Oracle)
• Subversion

Team is responsible for the post trading platform and infrastructure for European cash equities trading within the top tier investment bank. We build, maintain and support a market side booking service, off order book trade reporting engine and trade manager/repository. The development team is an integral part of a high energy front-office environment. As a result, the successful candidate will need to be highly committed, and be able to build very close working relationships with both the business and support teams. They will have a strong focus on ownership and commitment to completing deliverables in a timely way.
