Job Duties / Responsibilities:
The incumbent will have responsibilities for Quality Assurance in assigned areas, including product test procedures and specifications, performing audits, improvements of products reliability and customer satisfaction through support of the CPS (Caterpillar Production System), NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) programs. The position must develops plans and tools that are used to implement or support global quality systems or related process i.e. Cost of Poor Quality, APQP, PPAP, quality certifications, MQ11005 and MQ12005 etc. Implementation of MQ12005 will also align with the corporate requirements of the successful implementation of APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) tools.
This position is required to work with all employees to improve quality practices in their processes through quality manner such as daily coaching, tracking CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) projects & Scorecard, providing quality support if any poor results or negative trends occur, developing IQC training programs, providing training courses of quality specifications to employees, conducting internal quality audits, facilitating management reviews, etc.
This position is required to implement the Idea Generation Process and Corrective and Preventive action processes by clarifying and verifying all ideas with related persons and spot check, explain the validation reasons, and encourage all employees to make contributions to achieve zero defect in operations. This position is required to be proactive to develop quality related control methodologies and systems such as Cost of Quality control company-wide. Encourage the implementation of the established systems. Analyze and solve problems occurring during implementation.
This position is also required to actively support 5S/Lean Manufacturing/Class A and SAP and on going support, to help area owners set up goals and integrate 5S/Lean Manufacturing Practices with Caterpillar: Confidential Green Internal Quality Certification system through standardization and documentation.
This person reports to a Quality Manager or a Quality Supervisor and works with supervisors, technicians and other support groups. Typical internal customers include employees from two or more work groups in a Division.
The position's primary customers are internal. The position is challenged to carefully evaluate problems and review a large number of possible solutions before selecting one option. Problems may be complex and can require the incumbent to develop solutions. The incumbent is free to determine the best way to complete job assignments in order to achieve desired results. Work is reviewed after completion, except in the most complex or high impact situations. Impacts key quality goals including Continuous Improvement, Process Quality, Part Quality, Internal Quality Certification, ISO 9000 Certification, etc.
Desired qualifications:
- Operation of coordinate machines (i.e. Faro, DEA, Laser Tracker).
- Performing analysis of measurement reports.
- Using control and measurement devices.
- Reporting possible irregularities.
Background / Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Manufacturing with an excellent understanding of quality management practices or equivalent experience.
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment, or in the quality field is desired.
- Minimum three to five years of experience and requires a thorough knowledge of quality concepts including process control, analysis, Caterpillar internal certification principals, and ISO9000 etc. Requires strong communication, cooperation and influence skills to work with all levels of employees and customers, especially with leadership management employees.
- Requires quality tools knowledge and to be able to teach manufacturing/office employees how to properly apply quality tools or techniques.
- Advanced computer applications, good oral and written communications skills are a must.
