The Role

 

Project Accountants perform key functions that directly influence the profitability and financial performance of the company. Specifically, they work with project teams in the evaluation of contract terms to determine and properly establish setup requirements for projects in financial systems. Project Accountants evaluate progress, status, billing, and budgetary information submitted by Project Delivery personnel to ensure its accuracy and compliance with company and system requirements. They also provide support in other accounting and finance areas in accordance with standard procedures for general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc. Project Accountants are expected to understand and interpret data and to proactively coordinate and resolve issues with applicable members of project teams.

 

Responsibilties
  • Active participation in project’s initial set up by reviewing contractual and associated information and ensuring contractual terms are appropriately reflected in the system; ensures project accounting files are complete and set-up and maintained inaccordance with Company policies and guidelines,

  • Assists in determining project’s Work Breakdown Structure and project's budgets,

  • Assists Project Team in the determining monthly updates to cost budgets (EACs),

  • Ensures correct revenue recognition in a period by reviewing EACs submitted by Project Team and follow ups on any discrepancies identified,

  • Ensures project costs are accurately recorded in the system, assists in identifying the need for any processing cost accruals if needed,

  • Monitors project investment including A/R, WIP, BIE; timely Issue/review of client invoices to ensure they are in accordance with the contract terms, follow ups on AR collection, WIP analysis and reconciliation,

  • Active participation in period close by timely preparation and provision of various financial reports, providing comments to main KPIs on project’s performance , margin analysis, identifying project revenue/cost variances and processing necessary period close adjustments directly in GL module,

  • Advise and support Project Management Team in various areas with a view to improving project's overal performance,

  • Active cooperation with other departments (AP, AR, GL, PO etc.), outside vendors, suppliers, or clients to resolve various questions or problems.

  • Performs standardized duties and tasks requiring the application of corporate procedures, established best practices and techniques throughout all phases of a project within weekly, monthly and quarterly deadlines,

  • Supports Project Manager on special ad-hoc projects/reports as needed.

Requirements
  • 3+ years experience in an accounting environment (preferable construction or engineering industry – but not essential),

  • Degree in the field of Finance/ Accounting (preferable accounting, m anagerial accounting),

  • Verry good knowledge of English,

  • Excellent communication skills, time management and organizational skills, attention to details and ability to wrok under time pressure,

  • Practical working knowledge of basic Office applications (especially Access and Excel), knowledge of SQL and other applications will be an asset,

  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably Oracle Financials),

  • Advanced analytical skills – must be able to understand and inrepret data,

  • Must be able to apply accounting/finance knowledge and technical skills to large number of diverse situations ranging from routine setup and management to fairly complex (experience gained in various departments such as AP, AR, GL will be an asset),

  • Readiness to work with different time zones (mainly US) will be an asset.
