Hello, we are SolarWinds, and we are glad that you clicked on our job offer. First we would like to clarify that SolarWinds is not a solar power energy plant – we are a multinational software development company (with a startup spirit) that creates cool IT management software that our customers love.
Operations Engineer
Location: Kraków
Reference No.: 2016-6151
Job description
What would you do?
You will be working on our great product called Papertrail.
Papertrail helps detect, resolve, and avoid infrastructure problems using log messages. It allows companies to aggregate log files from a wide variety of popular products, applications, different cloud hosting services and other standard text log files. Our customers can then use the browser-based search interface or command-line tools to search through these files to diagnose bugs and performance issues.
You will be part of a small self-organizing team of talented engineers who, as you do, like to code, create smart and simple solutions, and explore new technologies.
The team is distributed all around the world but still communicate constantly in order to deliver a highly available and performant service for all our customers.
As an Operations Engineer you will help us build the scalable backend systems that power our monitoring and metrics service platform. You will be responsible for keeping the website running and finding solutions for the continuous expansion of the infrastructure. The management of our infrastructure is highly automated so there will be lot of coding as well. You will have lot of autonomy for how to get things done because we believe those closest to the work understand it best. You will also be expected to help push the infrastructure forward to better serve our customers. There are on-call responsibilities but we all share this duty as a team, and we all work to make sure the site is running as stably as we can.
What will you use?
The main technologies you will use are: Ruby, Java, Puppet, CentOS, and MySQL.
Other technologies we use on daily basis include ZooKeeper, Riemann, and Kestrel.
In addition we will be examining cutting edge technologies that will push our product’s excellence even further. If you have the same passion for technology as we do, you may have found the right place!
Requirements
What do we expect you to know/have?
We want you to have commercial experience with production web infrastructure and configuration management. You have to be able to code in Ruby as most of the code is written in it. We are thinking about some Python for the future so it would be nice if you are familiar with it as well.
You should be passionate about monitoring and believe that Operations provides a service instead of working tickets and that MTTR is more important than MTBF.
It would also be nice if you have experience with cloud-based deployment and ephemeral instances and you are comfortable with variety of *NIX platforms.
The primary key for us is that you are committed, capable to do things on your own but still work well with other team members and you are willing to explore and learn new skills.
Also, because you are reading this job description in English we hope you have good written and verbal English skills as we are a multinational company.
We offer
What awaits you besides top technology and great coworkers?
We promote self-education and support you in learning new things – through conferences, learning tutorials and mentors. You can enjoy a comfortable office space with free and tasty coffee, snacks, game room, soft chairs and PS4.
You can bike to work and find colleagues who do same sports as you do. We provide MultiSport, flexible working hours, private health insurance and fruits in the kitchen. Among the many benefits are a competitive salary, bonuses, and growth opportunities.
