- Monitoring of databases / instances, tablespace and diskgroups utilization
- Scheduling, coordinating and executing upgrades
- Performing dumps/loads and database cloning
- Monitoring and maintenance of database backup jobs
- Support for database clusters (Oracle RAC, ASM)
- Maintenance of database related tasks (housekeeping jobs, archive logs maintenance)
- Performance troubleshooting (finding un-optimized queries, suggesting improvements)
- Root Cause Analysis for database crashes and past performance issues
- Providing support for application releases (database maintenance related tasks, dumps on request, data modifications)
- Capacity management (new storage additions, tablespace extensions)
- Contacts with vendors to investigate issues and problems
- Quality life improvements to ease databases management (load/dump GUI, database maintenance tasks automation)
- Support for DR activities (moving database instances to other cluster nodes/servers, switching databases to DR counterparts)
- Providing end of month and end of year to application support teams
- Technical education
- Excellent knowledge of Oracle environment, preferably on Solaris and/or Linux systems (>10 years of professional working experience)
- Knowledge of service protection, backup and recovery of Oracle databases in the area of Unix and Linux (DataGuard, RMAN)
- Experience related to monitoring and tuning of Oracle databases (SQL analysis, AWR)
- Knowledge of dedicated database virtualization platforms (Exadata / Teradata)
- Willingness to work with multiple technologies (Database, Operating System, Middleware)
- Knowledge of Process Management Best Practices (example ITIL) and related tooling (HP SM, HP OVO, REMEDY)
- Highly desirable – knowledge of Websphere MQ / MQFTE, Windows Operating System, Unix Operating Systems, backup tools, automation tools (Salt, Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
- Willingness to work on shifts
