The Jr. Network Engineer will support the network environment by managing system configuration; facilitating system installation; and defining, documenting, and enforcing system standards. The role will maximize network performance by monitoring performance; troubleshoot network problems and outages; schedule upgrades; and provide networking design and implementation (hardware/software). The role will secure the network system by enforcing Security Operation team policies; defining and monitoring access; lead network performance tuning and reporting by gathering, prioritizing information; and managing projects against IT budgets.
- Installation and maintenance of site network equipment (routers, switches, and wireless solutions)
- Maintain and administer site infrastructure, including network connectivity, and internet access
- Support the definition of network architecture, evaluation of products, and implementation of new technologies into the network
- Participate in the daily planning, tracking, scheduling, and executing of project tasks and general network operations activities
- Diagnose, resolve, and document hardware and software network problems in a timely and accurate fashion
- Configure networks to ensure reliable operation for business objectives and processes
- Responsible for working with both vendors and customers to resolve issues and to ensure that delivered services match expectations
- Participate in on-call support to assist with troubleshooting, coordination, escalation, and resolution of network, voice, or security-based incidents, equipment failures, etc.
- Process, monitor and prioritize trouble tickets; basic troubleshooting of network-related issues
- Ability to follow and enhance existing IT policies and procedures
- Creates and maintains technical documentation
- Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science
- 2+ years’ experience as a Network Administrator
- Proficiency with network systems, protocols, and standards (Ethernet, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP)
- General knowledge of network security including firewalls and intrusion detection systems is a plus
- Experience in monitoring and assisting in the installation, configuration, managing, and upgrading of network technologies (Cisco, Meraki)
- Experience in executing medium to large-scale projects
- Strong aptitude for learning and excellent technical, analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Understand and define the layers of the OSI Model
- General network and hardware diagnostic skills including packet tracing, captures, and traffic shaping
- Configure and manage VLANS
- Highly organized, self-motivated, able to multi-task, able to work independently as well as a team player
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Strong customer technical support orientation with the ability to build working relationships with internal and external customers
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
