Job Overview:

 

The Director, European Shared Services (SSC), will provide leadership for ADM's growing SSC operations and will ensure consistent, effective and efficient processes. The individual will have the opportunity to play a key role in the implementation of ADM's SSC strategy.

 

The Director will be a leader within the global Shared Services team, and will require significant expertise in managing transactional processing, while focusing on continuous innovation and improvement and strategically partnering with others in the organization to strengthen and develop the center to continue to add value to ADM. This position will require extensive knowledge of cross-functional back office transactional processing. Highly effective communication across functions, with customers/ stakeholders and senior management including the Chief Financial Officer will be vital to the success of this role.

 

The position will be a valued business partner with ADM's Controlling groups and other functional teams. They will be leading process and systems improvements, change management and instilling a continuous improvement mindset. Will partner with the SSC Directors and Managers in the Asian, North and South American SSCs.

 

Main Responsibilities:

 

The Director, European SSC is responsible for the leadership of ADM's European SSC and for the operational oversight of the operations, including continuous process improvement, development of internal controls and people leadership. The Director will be a member of the global governance group.

 

Shared Services Strategy & Leadership:

  • Establish strategy, organization structure and governance for identified processes incorporated into the scope of the SSC.
  • Design, develop and execute a business strategy for expanding the SSC where appropriate for other areas of service.
  • Develop, monitor and remain within annual operating budget.
  • Hire, manage, coach, discipline and mentor direct reports in the SSC and provide vision and leadership to other SSC colleagues.
  • Establish goals and objectives for direct reports and assess performance against them.
  • Set clear expectations and define development plans for all direct reports and actively monitor and coach performance.
  • Ensure stretch goals are set for processes each month, and actively monitor and assess team performance against these goals.
  • Liaise with other (European) SSCs to stay informed of trends, technology and improvements as well as staying connected with high potential candidates.

Shared Services Operational Oversight:

  • Overall responsibility for the European SSC and leading teams in all processes included within the European SSC.
  • Develop and implement annual operating plans with the objective consistent with the strategic plans and initiatives to support efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Work closely with cross functional teams to identify and implement opportunities for efficiencies.
  • Integrate SSC related operations of new acquisitions and/or off-board related operations of divestitures.
  • Establish goals and create performance metrics for the SSC.
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement and performance excellence in the SSC and leverage best practices.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining standard operating procedures and strong internal controls for all processes.
  • Actively communicate to stakeholders regarding Shared Services performance, including significant accomplishments, concerns, and risks.
  • Partner with stakeholders and customers to ensure a clear understanding of business needs.
  • Ensure compliance with all ADM policies and legal regulations, apply internal controls, and mitigate risk within SSC processes.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6-10 years of leading a rapidly growing multi-functional European shared services centre.
  • Must be fluent (verbal, reading and writing), in English and Polish.
  • Knowledge of German, French, Portuguese or Mandarin will be an additional advantage.
  • MA degree in Accounting/Finance or Business Administration; CPA or other similar qualification preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High sense of urgency and ability to identify creative solutions to advanced, time sensitive problems.
  • Ability to effectively lead, direct, coach, develop and motivate colleagues.
  • Ability to implement best practices in Shared Services operations; commitment to driving competitive advantage while reducing costs, improving quality and managing risks.
  • High degree of organizational agility, able to handle sensitive issues with discretion.
  • Advanced resource, project management, organizational and change management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple work streams while remaining calm and effective under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of systems including Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to run effective operations despite multi-system environment. Prior ERP implementation (Oracle/JDE) a plus.
